Turkey, Istanbul, 2006. Unusual cloud over the Bosporous that had everyone looking up. It coincided with a visit of the Pope. Was it a sign of ?

29 Dec 2010 - Here we have Fowlers Mill Road, Tamworth New Hampshire in 2004. The table on the right is where I put the mailbox after it fell over and the ground was frozen solid so I couldn't dig a new post hole.

19 Dec 2010 - Photo du Jour: Greece, Santorini, Fira, 2004. Desparately trying to find some kind of foreground to wreck the banality of the tourist shot of the sea. The statue is on the roof of a beauty parlour.

Photo du Jour: France, Paris, 2010. This is Hugo Boss display window which blathers a lot of about absolutely nothing in a great effort to be clever and catch a viewers attention. In keeping with that motif, I' ve removed a couple of superfluous heads.

Photo du Jour: Au Negre Joyeaux, Supermarche, Rue Mouffetard, Place de la Contrescarpe, Paris, France. A photo of an intentional work of art by someone else-the picture of the happy black with his white sovereign of sorts and the extraordinarily colored sign.

France, Paris, Metro:Passy, 2010. So here we have a photo of ad posters, yellow plastic seats, and a sign. Words have been removed from the posters but the column also is removing letters from a word. What word would come to mind if I had not already mentioned the station name? Alas, the photo is really about the simple visual elements.

Photo du Jour: NYC, McDougall Street, Montes sign, September 2010.

Today's photo needs a bit of explanation, as it isn't much of a photo alone. My family ate in this restaurant, with our grandparents starting in the mid-1950's, over 50 years ago. The sign was the same. (It looks it) It is/was a childhood memory. If you look around you today, at your environment, how many man made things have been around you your whole life? If there are these things or better still trees, rocks, or natural bodies of water, or the sky for that matter, take a moment to let them resonate what meanings they evoke inside of you. These constants. In that context, this sign takes my breath away.

Here I am in the hot tub in 1951 in Washington, DC. I still find pure joy in hot tubs. Photo by Billy Smull. Cissy is pouring the cup of water over my head.
